Principal Engineer - Devops

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Principal DevOps Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and optimization of modern cloud infrastructure and DevOps practices. This is a hands-on technical leadership role requiring deep expertise in Azure, Kubernetes, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD automation, cloud networking, security, and production operations.

You will be responsible for building scalable, secure, and highly available cloud platforms while mentoring engineers and driving DevOps best practices across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage enterprise-grade cloud infrastructure on Microsoft Azure.
• Architect and maintain scalable Kubernetes environments (AKS) for production workloads.
• Develop and optimize CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, and YAML.
• Implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform to provision and manage cloud resources.
• Design secure cloud networking solutions including Virtual Networks, Network Security Groups, Private Endpoints, Load Balancers, Application Gateway, and Azure Front Door.
• Lead cloud migration initiatives with minimal downtime and operational risk.
• Define and implement disaster recovery, backup, and business continuity strategies.
• Integrate security scanning, code quality checks, and compliance controls into deployment pipelines.
• Configure monitoring, logging, diagnostics, and alerting using Azure Monitor and related observability tools.
• Automate infrastructure provisioning, deployments, and operational tasks using Bash, PowerShell, Python, and Shell scripting.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues and lead resolution of critical incidents within defined SLAs.
• Collaborate with development, QA, security, and infrastructure teams to improve delivery efficiency.
• Mentor DevOps engineers and establish engineering standards, documentation, and operational best practices.

Required Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
• 8+ years of experience in DevOps, Cloud Infrastructure, or Site Reliability Engineering.
• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure services.
• Expertise in Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and container orchestration.
• Strong knowledge of Docker and containerized application deployment.
• Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions.
• Advanced experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.
• Strong understanding of Git workflows and version control practices.
• Experience implementing cloud networking and security best practices.
• Knowledge of monitoring, logging, and observability platforms.
• Strong scripting skills in Bash, PowerShell, or Python.
• Experience supporting production environments and managing high-severity incidents.
• Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and technical leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Azure Site Recovery and disaster recovery planning.
• Familiarity with SonarQube and DevSecOps practices.
• Experience with cloud governance, cost optimization, and compliance.
• Azure certifications are highly desirable.
• Experience leading technical teams and mentoring engineers.
